The ZR1X was literally too quick in the quarter-mile for its own software, as Ill explain in a moment. So in order to get through the quarter-mile with both drivetrains engaged, they had to juke the software so the disengagement happened at 160 mph, enabling the ZR1Xs "trap speed" to be registered with the full propulsion system activated.

That isnt always the case when Teslas driver-assistance software messes up. At least for now, we only have the drivers word that they were operating the vehicle "in self-drive mode," so its entirely possible they drove onto the tracks themselves and simply blamed it on the software.

Basically, Volkswagen and its brands have decades of mechanical engineering experience, but comparatively little in software engineering.
