The most common Chevelle body style in 1968 was the 2-door sport coupe, with Chevrolet building over 180K units fitted with a V8 engine (in addition to over 20,500 units with a six-cylinder engine).
The SS396 was the runner-up from a production numbers perspective with 55,309 units, while the Malibu 4-door sedan accounted for approximately 40,000 units. 30,772 Malibus rolled off the assembly lines with a V8 unit.

The easiest way to distinguish a 4-door Malibu sedan is by the first five numbers in the VIN tag. If it's 13669, it's a 4-door Malibu sedan with a V8 engine, while 13569 indicates a six-cylinder version.

The 1968 Chevelle Malibu in these photos flexes the same five numbers, promising an original powertrain with a very intriguing number on the odometer.

The four-door sedan rolled off the assembly lines with a 307 V8, and seller sneakers_n_electronics says the mill starts and runs. The car has already received several repairs and new parts, including a gas tank, exhaust pipes, hood insulation, and a radiator.

Judging by the photos, the car has been sitting for many years, so the presence of rust isn't a surprise. The floors likely exhibit serious metal damage, but the best way to determine what happens under the car is to put the Chevelle on a lift and inspect the undersides. The owner says the car is far from becoming a rust bucket, and the photos back their claim.

The Chevelle looks good, with typical rust in the trunk pan. The seller also promises the "interior and exterior are in good shape" for a car this old, but potential buyers should still check out everything in person before committing to a purchase.

The 307 isn't the best choice for someone who wants a head-turning Chevelle, but considering it's the original mill, a complete restoration to factory specifics makes sense. You can tell the Chevelle is no longer 100% original, so if you already have another engine in the house, you can swap it and create a unique restomod.

The numbers on the odometer are the most intriguing tidbit. One of the photos indicates the car has just 26K miles on the clock, but it's unclear if it's the original mileage or the correct numbers. Make sure you double-check the mileage during your vehicle inspection.

Buying the car won't be cheap. The owner wants $14K for the Malibu, but they also enabled the Make Offer button for buyers interested in the car but unwilling to pay that much. Meanwhile, the vehicle is parked in Brunswick, Georgia, and you'll need a trailer to take it home despite the working engine. The listing will expire in 27 days, so you have enough time to make room in your garage for another project.
