There are so many ways to start living tiny. Some options are buying an RV, a trailer, or a camper van or converting a van, school bus, or ambulance into a tiny home on wheels. However, there's one option not that many people choose: renovating an older RV. Today, I'm checking out an RV with a fully renovated, cozy living space.
The choice should be based on your needs and wants – for instance, if you want the most real estate you can get, you should consider converting a school bus or getting your hands on a larger RV.

Meet DiNeil, the owner and renovator of this mobile home. After losing his corporate job during the pandemic, he finally chased his dream of living on the road. So, he purchased this 2006 Coachmen Aurora Class A RV.

Regarding budget, he got the base vehicle for $40,000 (€37,134), and the renovation set him back an additional $3,000 (€2,785) - that's quite little considering how different the living space looks now compared to when he got it. This brings the total price of this tiny home on wheels to $43,000 (€39,919), about the same as you'd pay to build a well-equipped camper van conversion based on an older vehicle.

The rig measures 36 feet (11 meters) in length, comes with two sizeable slide-outs, and averages about 8-10 MPG (23.5-29.4 L/100km). As usual, I'll start the tour with the exterior.

You'll notice many storage compartments on both sides, as well as a ladder at the rear. DiNeil also installed five 200 W solar panels for a total capacity of 1,000 W. Furthermore, this mobile home is equipped with a 100-gallon (378-liter) freshwater tank and two 64-gallon (242-liter) greywater and blackwater tanks.

At first glance, you might think this is a run-of-the-mill RV due to the standard exterior. But once you step inside, you'll realize this couldn't be further from the truth. The entrance is located at the front, on the passenger side.

You'll be greeted by a finely designed interior with a dark, masculine aesthetic. DiNeil was the mind behind this look since he has a background in interior design. I love that he was bold enough to go for many black details since most people and converters usually choose brighter designs.

On your left, as you enter, you'll discover a huge closet with a triple purpose. One, obviously, is storage – its top part is a hanging closet. Second, the bottom part is where you'll find a washer/dryer. And third, this spot can serve as an office, as a desk with a keyboard holder can be pulled out. DiNeil even has a fax machine, a printer, and a copier, things I've never seen before in a mobile office.

The driver's cabin is on the left and comes with a top-mounted TV, overhead cabinets, and a Gucci-labeled shoe box between the driver's and passenger's swivel seats, which doubles as a coffee table.

Next up, we have the living room. On one side, it consists of a large couch, two overhead cabinets, an A/C, and an elegant armchair. On the wall behind, DiNeil added a custom cover to cover the slide-screen window. What's more, on the opposite side, you'll notice a huge TV.

Here's one distinctive detail regarding the living room – DiNeil has a full-weight bench complete with individual weights so he can work out wherever he is. You don't often see this kind of equipment in mobile homes since they take up too much space. Moreover, to make things even better, there's a treadmill he can use for some quick cardio.

Walk deeper inside this RV's interior, and you'll be in the L-shaped kitchen. It features a bar with a wine bottle holder and a cellar, an overhead microwave, an icemaker, a dishwasher, an oven/three-burner stove combo, an electric hot plate, an air fryer, a huge sink, an enormous fridge, and a fancy, gold-spray-painted water container. To be frank, there are tons of features, so I won't mention every single one – just know that this kitchen is extremely well-equipped.

The interior past the kitchen narrows into a hallway that leads into the bathroom. The dark design continues in the bathroom, which has black walls and a black and white sink base. Furthermore, it boasts a mirror cabinet and a spacious shower. Below, you'll notice a black shower mat and black pebbles on the shower pan for a cool, spa-like aesthetic touch.

On the opposite side, DiNeil devised another part of the bathroom with a toilet and three large drawers. Of course, most things here are also finished in black with gold touches.

Finally, we have the bedroom at the rear of the RV. DiNeil wanted the bedroom to look like a Hermes Boutique. It features tons of storage space in the form of cabinets (one of them also houses a heated dryer), drawers, and shoe storage spots, as well as a TV, a spacious bed with a custom black headboard, two nightstands holding lamps, and two fans.

All in all, it's incredible how many creature comforts DiNeil managed to fit inside his tiny home on wheels while still developing a cozy and aesthetically pleasing interior. Sure, the design might be too eccentric for some, but it's the perfect interior for him, and that's what matters.

To be frank, I'm very impressed that he managed to transform the living space radically with a mere $3,000 – props to him for this achievement. I'm assuming the rig was already equipped with many of the features we've seen inside since only those would've cost him more than $3K.
