Hypothetical Future Ford EV Pickup Truck Doesn't Want to Be Called Ranger Lightning

Even Tesla is feeling the current EV slowdown with Elon Musk going around the world to help implement new features and technologies while also reportedly sacking more executives and employees who don't understand that the hour is dire.
As such, it is no wonder that many legacy automakers have also reworked their zero-emissions plans. Toyota had been advocating for EV patience for years, but some carmakers didn't listen to them. Others, on the other hand, were quick to react to the changing market conditions. For example, Ford has suddenly delayed the arrival of its large three-row electric SUV and the second-generation full-size pickup truck, the heir to the F-150 Lightning, blaming it on low EV demand.

Of course, they are not impacting anything at the moment – Cadillac has yet to come to the market with its 2025 Escalade IQ, the direct competitor for a big Ford EV sport utility vehicle, even if they weren't in the same price range. Ford's decision about the big SUV also has consequences for the Lincoln version, so folks will need to wait a little while longer (about another year) for a Navigator EV. Also, the F-150 Lightning is still doing well on the market despite the arrival of the Tesla Cybertruck – the Chevrolet Silverado EV RST and GMC Sierra EV Denali, plus the Ram 1500 REV, are still far behind schedule.

Additionally, the company still plans to research and develop a second-generation Ford Mustang Mach-E to better fight the Tesla Model Y's upcoming refresh; it's just that the corner office head honchos have refocused on the surprise reveal of a 'skunkworks' team working on a new, cheap platform for (very) affordable all-electric models. Naturally, the imaginative realm of digital car content creators has immediately jumped at the chance of envisioning such models – including Vince Burlapp (aka vburlapp on social media or burlappcar.com), a prolific virtual artist who loves to dream of all the latest models across the wide-ranging automotive realm.

This pixel master dreamed of compact Ford pickups and SUVs, establishing a completely new EV family in an alternate reality across fantasy land, but he didn't stop there. Pondering all the above – the delayed EV full-size pickup truck and three-row SUV, plus the new, affordable compact models based on the cheap platform, he concluded there's also enough zero emissions space in the lineup to come up with a mid-size electric pickup. However, hold your Ranger horses, as the CGI expert didn't imagine it as the Ranger EV or Lightning but rather an electric model that has nothing in common with an existing ICE-powered series.

That way, he thinks, it's possible to come out with a more interesting design and carve a niche in the segment dominated by the Toyota Tacoma that's now also offered as a 326-hp hybrid when equipped with the i-Force Max powertrain. What do you think?
