One of the most anticipated cars of 2024 is the new Lexus GX, which has been fully redesigned for the first time since 2009. We’ve already been privy to details about the GX’s boxy styling and much improved interior, as well as all of the specs for the new platform and turbocharged engine — and now we finally know how much it will cost. The 2024 Lexus GX will start at $64,250 (including $1,350 for destination), an increase of $4,025 over the outgoing model, and it can reach past the $80,000 mark when fully loaded.

At launch every GX will be the GX 550 model, which uses a twin-turbo 3.4-liter V6 engine making 349 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque that’s mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive. That’s 48 hp and 150 lb-ft up from the old GX 460's naturally aspirated 4.6-liter V8, and Lexus says the new GX has an EPA estimate of 21 mpg highway, two mpg better than the outgoing model.

The entry-level GX Premium trim comes with a lot of stuff for that near-$65,000 starting price. On the outside it’s got 20-inch wheels, triple-beam LED headlights, power-folding mirrors, a power liftgate, a sunroof and a tow hitch. The front seats are 8-way power adjustable and feature heating and ventilation as standard, and the GX’s cabin features up to six USB-C ports, an AC outlet in the cargo area, ambient lighting and a 10-speaker sound system.

Every GX has a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a 14-inch central touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, navigation and a Wi-Fi hotspot. Safety features include adaptive cruise control with stop and go, automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection and steering assist, blind-spot monitoring, lane-centering assist, lane-departure warning with steering assist, rear cross-traffic alert, road sign recognition and parking assist.

Next up is the $69,250 GX Premium+ trim, adding LED foglights, a power-adjustable heated leather steering wheel, heated second-row seats, fancier ambient lighting, pedestrian detection for the parking assist, power folding for the third row, a surround-view camera, a wireless charger, and memory for the driver’s seat, mirrors and steering wheel.

Then there’s the Luxury trim, which costs $77,250. For that you get 22-inch wheels, leather upholstery, front seats with massage and 10-way adjustment for the driver, 4-way adjustable front headrests, illuminated door sills, rear sunshades and exterior puddle lights. The $81,250 Luxury+ trim takes things even further, adding adaptive dampers, a cool box, a digital rearview mirror, a panoramic sunroof, powered running boards, and a 21-speaker Mark Levinson surround sound system (also optional on the regular Luxury). Both Luxury trims can be had with heated captain’s chairs for the second row, replacing the three-across bench seat. Maximum towing capacity for the Luxury is reduced from 8,000 pounds to 7,145 pounds, and the Luxury+ is limited to 6,955 pounds.

Off-roaders will want to go for the Overtrail trims, which build off of the basic Premium model. The $69,250 Overtrail comes standard with the adaptive dampers, plus it adds Lexus’ Electronic Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (E-KDSS) that features front and rear stabilizer bars that can be locked and unlocked either automatically or as the driver needs. Other off-road goodies include crawl control with turn assist, an electronically locking rear differential, hill-descent control, selectable off-road drive modes, and 18-inch wheels with 33-inch all-terrain tires. The Overtrail also gets a surround-view camera, headlight washers, a heated steering wheel and LED foglights.

Step up to the $77,250 Overtrail+ and you get features like a kick-operated power liftgate, ventilated and massaging front seats, heated rear seats, driver’s memory settings, a power-adjustable steering wheel, rear sunshades, a wireless charger, a surround-view camera with off-road views, and parking assist with pedestrian detection. The Overtrail+ is available with a digital key and that Mark Levinson system, and both Overtrail trims can be had with a cool box. Interestingly, both versions of the Overtrail can also be optioned without the standard sunroof. While the other GX trims have up to seven seats, the Overtrails are strictly a two-row affair with five seats total.

Every GX trim apart from the Overtrails are offered with a Cold Area Package that adds a faster interior heater, headlight washers and a windshield wiper de-icer. Standalone options on every GX include a head-up display, a tonneau cover, and traffic jam assist for the adaptive cruise control system. Eight exterior paints and five different leather color schemes are available, and the Overtrails get two-tone paint and suede interior accents.

The 2024 GX will be built at the same factory in Japan that produces cars like the Lexus IS, GS and LS, as well as the Toyota Land Cruiser and Land Cruiser Prado. Lexus says the new GX will reach dealers in early 2024. For those who want a boxy off-road Toyota but find the Lexus badge too rich for their blood, the new Toyota Land Cruiser is a twin of the GX and should carry a lower starting price when it also goes on sale next year.
